Soft washing is not pressure washing
They get used interchangeably and they are not the same thing. Pressure washing removes material by force. Soft washing removes it with chemistry and rinses it away at a pressure closer to a garden hose.
On siding, force is the enemy. High pressure drives water up behind lap siding and into the wall cavity, where it has no way out. It forces water past window seals. On older painted wood it strips paint that was still sound. None of that shows up the day of the job, which is exactly why it keeps happening.

What makes a house look dirty
In this climate it is almost always organic. Mildew and algae establish on the north and shaded sides first, where the wall stays damp longest after rain. Airborne dirt gives it something to hold onto, and by the time most owners notice, the whole elevation has gone a flat gray that they read as the siding aging.
It is not aging. The colour underneath is intact in nearly every case, and the growth releases with the right solution and a rinse. A house that the owner had priced out for replacement siding often turns out to need an afternoon.

We pre-wet and rinse landscaping before and after, cover what needs covering, and keep solution off anything that should not take it. Gutters get the same attention as the walls, because a house with clean siding and black gutter faces still reads dirty from the street.
